Mathilda Ballantyne
Dancer, Performer, and Choreographer
I am an Australian-Chinese creative and began my dance training at the Melbourne School of Classical Dance. In 2010 I was accepted into The Australian Ballet School. During my time at the school, I was honoured various awards such as the Graeme Murphy Award for Excellence in Contemporary Dance and the Areti Boyaci Award for Excellence in Spanish Dance.
In my graduating year, I performed in Coppélia as part of the Australian Ballet’s Regional Tour and was also commissioned, to co-choreograph a piece for the School’s Gala Dinner. I was a finalist in The Brisbane International Contemporary Dance Prix, it was there I was invited to perform with Projection Dance Company upon graduating in 2019, where I was able to work and tour with former Company Wayne McGregor and The Australian Ballet dancers in Melbourne and Sydney for the company’s 2020 season.
Since then, I have wanted to delve into more choreographic opportunities and am a finalist for the Telstra Emerging Choreographer Award in 2021.
